I'd really love a comm designed to share music primers. When joining a new fandom people often search out primers-- often long, picspam style posts which offer a summary of the fandom so far (a brief overview of characters and other places to find the fandom on tumblr, dreamwidth etc). I'd like one for music.

I love new music, and I love discovering new genres. But sometimes when I want to get into something (like jazz or country or metal) and I don't know anybody who can point me in the right direction, I end up sticking to the stuff that appears on the top results page of google. I miss the bands that people who grew up with the genre might know about.

So I'd like a comm for just that-- primers for either entire genres or specific subsets of that genre or even just one artist (and related acts). Examples of songs could be linked to from youtube or another source similar.

Mostly I'm interested in setting up the comm myself and want to know if any body would be interested.

Also I've tried to reply to everyone who answered me on the friending meme, so if I miss you it's not deliberate. I was just sleepy.

I'd definitely be interested in reading something like that... the only music I have on my phone is by the Glee Cast... I need to branch out! Especially given I no longer watch Glee...

That'd be great, a couple of people have expressed interest so I think I'll make the comm sometime soon. Have you any ideas you'd want to post, 'cause you're welcome to.

That's great! :D I think you said there too but I'm also too lazy-- I've jut moved but it looks like no wifi for ages and my mobile's all I've got.

That sounds like a great idea! Would it be for all different types of music?

I'm not great when it comes to terminology, what do you mean by 'primers'?

By primers I mean a 'beginners guide to _____' sort of post. I am considering one for my favourite band, and the general post I was thinking of would have something like: small bio of the band and its members, a overview of their albums chronologically, the genre(s) the band is in and similar bands people may enjoy. If you wanted to branch out and do one for a genre or a sub-genre, I'd probably discuss the genre in the beginning and say who may enjoy this style (i.e. fans of rock or heavy metal may enjoy death metal), then give an overview of bands you like from the genre. I am probably going to suggest embedding youtube videos as example songs.

Bu you don't have to do it my way. The post just has to introduce people to genre of music or artist.

Interest, interest! Music I'd definitely one of my things that I can always do with more of. Might even get the gumption to eventually do a primer.
